Welcome to Winter!

Well winter has landed here in Edmonton in full force, we are all hunkering down and going into hibernation mode.  Winter also can create more opportunities for social isolation.  It is common for people to remain at home more in our inclement weather times and to not see other people as often through social activities or daily tasks such as shopping.  TeleCare can offer some assistance in these situations with our Care Call service where we provide a daily phone call to a loved one to ensure daily contact.  Often times these calls are just a social check in, a medication reminder or an appointment reminder.  In all cases the calls are a friendly voice to spend a couple minutes chatting to ensure people at risk of isolation are receiving some support.

Call us today for more information about our Care Call services.

Summer Means Door to Door Disturbances

Now that the weather has warmed up, security sales people may begin turning up at your door.  Be careful not to be taken in by door to door scams! These people often make lofty promises and may try to pressure you into making a decision on the spot. Make sure you ask the right questions, check with the Better Business Bureau, and always call TeleCare before switching to another provider.

Some of these companies will try to tell you that they work for or with TeleCare and we want to assure you that we do not participate in door to door sales.  Please call us immediately if you have any concerns about someone who has been to see you.  If you have signed an agreement with a door to door salesperson, please know that you have up to 10 days to cancel – even if your equipment has already been replaced!  You are covered by the "buyer's right to cancel".

Celebrating Seniors Week

As we inch ever closer to summer, we have been celebrating our seniors all over Alberta, during Seniors Week.  We were seen down in Rimbey, Alberta, all over Edmonton as well as north to St Albert showing our TeleCare products and talking about our services.  We were able to connect with many familiar faces that use TeleCare services and a few more who came out to learn about us.  We just wanted to take a moment to say one more "Thank You" for your support and to let you know how honored we are to provide service to all of our clients, young and elderly.  We wish you all a wonderful summer!

Gather tips on "Going Green", Diabetes and Gluten Free living just to name a few.

Volunteers Needed for Equipment Installation

Good Samaritan Society TeleCare provides personal emergency response systems to clients across Canada with the majority based in Alberta and BC.  We are looking to add to our small group of volunteers who work in the community to install our TeleCare equipment. The set-up is simple and consists of a land telephone line connection and a power outlet (similar to an answering machine).  Our volunteers also test the equipment with the client to ensure they are comfortable using it and all is working well.

Here is one of our fabulous volunteers, Barry, installing the CookStop:

Volunteer, Barry Scheuerman, tests a newly installed CookStop device

Volunteers donate their time between the hours of 9-3pm, Monday through Friday. The typical volunteer shift is for approximately 2-3 hours, and can occur 1 to 12 times per month. We are very flexible and are happy to accommodate your availability.

We are looking for individuals who are comfortable with basic technical equipment, enjoy meeting new people and are looking to give their time to support those in need in your community. If this sounds like an opportunity that you might be interested in, please contact Serina at 780-431-3630. You can also click ‘volunteer’ on the tab at the top of the page to apply online. Thank you!

If I did not have the Good Samaritan TeleCare service, I'm sure the outcome might have been more serious and long-lasting. I remain a living ad for your excellent service.
